In 1998, in the face of all of the turmoil within Colombia (political violence, drug cartels, etc.), thirty women coffee farmers got together to form the the Las Mujeres de Guayata Association. With very little to work with, these women still believed they could take charge and improve conditions for themselves and their families. More and more great coffees are being culled from the huge homogenized pile of that Colombia has become well known for, created in part by the successfull "Juan Valdez" advertising campaign. We have found some real gems this year (and last), including the coffee from Las Mujeres de Guayata. This is a rarity in Colombia: 100% typica (usually it's a mixture of typica and bourbon types). Guayata is just outside Bogota and closest to the Santander coffee region which makes for special distinction in the cup; melon, soft popaya, buttery with mild sweetness, rich and balanced. To order, close this window and proceed to our "green coffee" web page. Note: these are unroasted green coffee beans |
