Hosethota Estate Sitara (meaning "Bright Star")

This Sitara - from India- is the crème-de-la-crème of robustas. It certainly lives up to its name "bright start" as it shines above all other robustas. It is excellent as an espresso blender (for crema enhancement), and is one of very few robustas that can be used by itself (100%) for espresso extraction. Most robustas are very high in caffeine content; our opinion after sampling is that their is a bit more caffeine than found in typical arabicas, but not a whole lot more.

Lots of spice notes, nuts, full bodied with a long finish. Holds up well to dark roast styles and cuts beautifully though milk-based drinks such as cappu's and lattes. We like it best at a medium-dark roast level.

The Dutchman's Espresso Tip: The more of this that is added to a blend, the finer the grind that will be required. At 100%, make sure your grinder is up to snuff because the proper grind setting will be veeerryy fine indeed! At a minimum, allow at least three full days of post-roast rest period or the resulting CO2 "bloom" will make producing good shots difficult.
