The Behmor 1600 is an easy to use one pound capacity home roaster that employs patent pending smoke suppression technology while at the same time using environmentally sensitive practices in its production. At almost half the price of other drum roasters, the Behmor produces a consistent, very nice quality roast. It can roast up to one full pound, though we recommend slightly less if a dark roast is desired. As with all roasters, the Behmor should not be left unattended. This is particularly important during the final stages of the roast. The cooling cycle consists of the beans remaining in the wire-mesh type drum as the heating element shuts off. Because of this, it is important to anticipate where the roast will be in the next 15-20 seconds or so, and if manually stopping the roast at a certain level, the machine should be put in the cool-down cycle prior to the beans reaching the desired level of darkness.

Important Notes:

    • There is a thin plastic sheet covering the chaff collector tray that needs to be removed prior to turning the roaster on.
    • The Behmor requires periodic cleaning, especially under the chaff tray. A "dummy cycle" with no beans should be run before using for the first time and then about every 8-10 roasts afterward so it will self clean. This is important to remove any build-up of oils within the roaster. If not removed, these oils will catch on fire if allowed to accrue to a thickness of about 1/16th inch or so.
    • Having a fire extinguisher nearby is always a good idea when using any type of home roasting unit. While fires are rare, they have been known to occur.
    • The instructions for the unit are well written by the manufacturer and should be read and thoroughly understood before operating the machine for the first time.
